Kim Best is a graphic designer and artist based in Durham, North Carolina. She paints a diverse range of subjects using different mediums, all with a vibrant, clean, and playful aesthetic.

Always fascinated by art class while in grade school—exploring new mediums, techniques, and the smell of art supplies when she walked through that classroom’s door—she realized she wanted to pursue her love for art. She is mostly self-taught and has learned through trial and error, always trying new things, and by refusing to ever give up.

She was diagnosed with MS in 2005, and has found that painting is a great way to express and release emotion, as well as gain energy from the joy she gets from creating art.

In addition to her current acrylic paintings, she has painted a wide-range of commissioned art, interior wall murals, experimented with linolium block printing, and even illustrated a children’s book, but putting on some great music and painting whatever moves her in the moment, is her absolute favorite. Her most recent work has been focused on trees and abstract art, using acrylic paint on canvas with palette knives.

She lives in Durham, NC, with her husband, two kids, and two crazy boxers. She earned her BS in Interior Architecture & Design from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and worked as an interior designer for a few years before making the career change to graphic design. She has been working full-time as a graphic designer since 2000.
